To prepare for filming we created a story board. We did this so we could visually see our ideas and if they where going to work, we produced 12 story boards with hand drawn pictures and writing to explain the picture and shots that will be used. On the story boards we wrote if the shot was interior/exterior, location, camera shot, camera movement, camera angle, cast required for this shot and any other notes. Our pre production planning was helpful as we could follow them when we where filming ensuring we didn't miss any key parts out and we could also show cast members what we wanted them to do when they didn't understand verbal communication.
The filming process itself didn't go as smoothly as it could because we had problems with groups and people being absent and leaving the group so we had to form a new group and start from the beginning filming as quickly as possible to catch up with the other groups in class and be at the same stage. Although when we did record a new film the process went ok but we couldn't meet a high standard as it had to be rushed and everything we had previously planned couldn't be used as their where certain location shots which we couldn't access on the day we where filming.
The editing stage was difficult at first as I had never used IMovie before to edit films. At the start we had problems uploading our footage on to IMovie as it only accepted half of the films, we then had to create a folder and put all the footage in and then select the folder on IMovie. Apart from this the editing process was ok and I could easily cut parts out that I didn't want and add music to the background.
Overall I think my short film meets the expectations of the set brief as it includes everything that is asked. The parts that I think are the strongest is the over the shoulder shots when the joke is being told and the music I have chose makes the short film strong as I think it suits the mood of the film we want the audience too see and feel. The weaknesses are the quality as we filmed with I Pad's parts of the film are shaky and their is poor quality throughout because the cameras aren't very good on the I Pads. An area of development that I can use on my main task is too film everything as a whole to make editing easier to cut out jumps and use a better quality camera.
Here is our final piece

I found the evaluation fairly easy to complete as i had a lot of things to comment about our preliminary task. I think the filming process paragraph is the strongest because in the filming process we had a lot of problems that i could include and talk about. I think my weakest paragraph is my editing as i found it hard to explain the editing process. I think i have used a handful of pictures but not enough to clearly show the process.
ReplyDeleteYour comment above is a little briefer than I would have liked Jemma. My opinion is that your evaluation is proficient and shows evidence of a reflective thought process. Areas for development include your use of punctuation as this weakens the quality of your written expression. I am pleased to see you supporting your evaluation with a range of images.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me the most important thing that you think you learnt from the process of completing the preliminary task?
