characters forget about threat- In horror movies characters are usually told scary stories or hear odd sounds and tend to forget about what they have been told putting danger to the back of their minds.
power cut- During horror films their is always a scene where the power gets cut, the lights go off so the character is in pitch black causing tension for the audience.
phone lines are cut- if their isn't a power cut in a horror movie the phone line is cut. Making it scary for the audience as the character cant call for help especially if they are in a secluded location.
Someone investigates a strange noise- Character usually hear strange noises coming from secluded areas such as the attic or the basement and decide to check it out, causing danger for them.
victim someone runs upstairs- victims usually run up the stairs to safety instead of outside. This is too create tension within the audience as they know that the character isn't safe.
victim cowers in front of a window or door- Character usually hide behind glass windows or doors with glass panels in from the villain. usually in horror films the villain is behind the door/window and smashes it. If used correctly this can be very effective in a horror movie.
victim falls over- in most horror movies the victim always trips over something and fall over making it easier for the villain to get them and cause tension within the audience.
vehicle wont start- when the character is about to finally get away from the villain and the vehicle {car} wont start so the character can get away.
fake scare- this is when the director builds tension in the film to make the audience think something scary is going to happen but then nothing does. fake scares can be easily done and effective if thought out properly.
